Ronny Chieng

International Student which debuted on ABC (Australia) as well as Comedy
Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born to an Malaysian Chinese couple in Johor
Bahru (Malaysia). Chieng was brought up in Singapore and the United States. He
lived in Manchester, New Hampshire, from 1989 to 1994. Chieng performed in a
comedy festival that took place in Melbourne, Australia in 2013 alongside
Trevor Noah. Chieng was later asked to audition for the position of Noah's
Daily Show two years later. In July of 2016, he was named one of the top 10
comics you should be watching by Variety In October 2016, Chieng appeared on
The Daily Show to offer his response to a Jesse Watters Fox News segment that
was criticized by some as being racist. Chieng aired an expletive-laden
criticism of the segment on Fox News that was deemed conservative by many.
Chieng also visited New York City's Chinatown where Watters made fun of
residents. The video went viral and was featured by the Washington Post, Slate,
and various other outlets. Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout in his early years.
Even though he's lived in Australia for over a decade, he does not have
citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia. In the year 2018 Chieng
admitted that he was unfriendly on the Daily Show, but later , in an interview,
he said that he was "100 percent not afraid of dogs".
