The video went viral and was featured by the Washington Post, Slate, and various other outlets. Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout in his early years. Even though he's lived in Australia for over a decade, he does not have citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia. In the year 2018 Chieng admitted that he was unfriendly on the Daily Show, but later , in an interview, he said that he was "100 percent not afraid of dogs".
